Yoga: Passos para ganhar condicionamento e alongamento de pés e pernas

Diferentemente dos exercícios de musculação, que trabalham grupos específicos de músculos, as posturas em pé do Yoga fortalecem as pernas de forma completa. Além disso, o Yoga oferece ao mesmo tempo fortalecimento e alongamento para esses membros. Por exemplo, quando você está fazendo virabhadrasana II (postura do guerreiro II) para a direita, o quadríceps da perna direita se contrai fortemente, o da esquerda se firma, as virilhas internas se alongam e os praticantes mais atentos sentem a panturrilha esquerda se contraindo.

Quando feitas de maneira correta, as posturas em pé também fortalecem os músculos que protegem as articulações dos joelhos e tornozelos, o que ajuda a construir uma base de apoio melhor para todo o corpo. “Essas posturas ensinam os músculos das pernas a manter as articulações no alinhamento correto”, explica Dario Fredrick, fisiologista do exercício e instrutor de Iyengar Yoga em San Anselmo, Califórnia.

Today is Patanjali Jayanti where the teachings of sage Patanjali are celebrated. Patanjali codified yoga into 196 terse aphorisms. He took the vast teachings of yoga and condensed them so they can be recited as an oral tradition and passed on from teacher to student generation to generation. To study and live the Sutras will allow your practice to have a sense of direction and give you guidance on dealing with all life circumstances.

I saw that there will be a special class at RIMYI where the entire Yoga Sutras will be recited along with 108 names of Patanjali. It sounds like it will be a very special event.

This is one of my favorite versions of the invocations by Neel Kulkarni. His chanting is comforting and emotional. Just beautiful. See the words below to follow along. Happy Patanjali Jayanti!
